Tabora. Thousands of residents in Tabora Municipality turned out in large numbers yesterday to welcome and listen to the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as she continued her campaign tour in the region.
President Samia reminded the people of Tabora that their region remains the cradle of Tanzania’s political history. She noted that the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, studied and taught in Tabora, marking the area as a place of lasting historical significance.
She further recalled that Tabora hosted the historic 1958 TANU General Meeting, which resolved to participate in elections that brought Tanzania closer to independence. To this day, she said, the independence monument in Tabora stands as a symbol of the country’s journey to political freedom.
“After gaining political independence, our task has been to fight for economic self-reliance. CCM is committed to building an inclusive economy that improves the welfare of every Tanzanian,” President Samia told the rally, quoting Mwalimu Nyerere’s famous words that development must be brought by the people themselves and reach citizens wherever they are.
Expanding Social and Economic Services
Highlighting progress in education, health, energy, agriculture, and water supply, she acknowledged that the needs remain high. She pledged that, if re-elected, her government will continue implementing ongoing projects and launch new ones in these critical sectors.
On electricity, President Samia promised to complete the full electrification of all villages and areas in Tabora. She revealed that her administration had already started implementing commitments, including the construction of a power substation in Urambo and Kaliua and a system control center in Ziba, Igunga District.
Strategic Infrastructure Projects
She also called on Tabora residents to support her so that major transport projects can be completed.
These include the ongoing upgrade of Tabora Airport, which is already 95 percent complete, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline passing through Nzega and Igunga, and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Makutupora–Tabora to Isaka.
“The SGR stations in Tabora will create jobs and open new opportunities for trade,” she assured.
Support for Farmers and Livestock Keepers
With agriculture forming the backbone of Tabora’s economy, President Samia promised to strengthen the sector through subsidies for fertilizers and inputs, while expanding irrigation schemes to allow double cropping annually. Under the CCM 2025–2030 manifesto, the government aims to expand irrigated land from the current 983,466 hectares to five million hectares nationwide.
For livestock keepers, she pledged continued support by improving vaccination services, establishing more dips, and modernizing livestock markets to increase productivity.
Water Supply Projects
The Head of State further promised that by 2030, water challenges in Tabora will be resolved. She said water projects in Sikonge have already reached 67 percent completion, while the Lake Victoria water project will ultimately address water supply needs across the entire region.
Roads and Urban Infrastructure
She highlighted government investment in roads under TARURA, with increased budgets for construction. If re-elected, she said, CCM will oversee the construction of an 82-kilometer ring road to decongest heavy trucks from the Tabora town center.
In addition, she pledged the construction of 132 bridges across the region and the installation of 2,300 streetlights, enabling Tabora to operate as a 24-hour business hub.
President Samia urged residents to turn out in large numbers on October 29, 2025, and vote for her and other CCM candidates so that the region’s development journey can continue.
