The Office of the Attorney General in Mtwara Region has held the inaugural meeting of its Legal Advisory Committee, a platform designed to guide the implementation of legal services, strengthen oversight, and promote legal education for the public.

The meeting took place at the Attorney General’s regional offices in Mtwara and was officially opened by Regional State Attorney, Ms. Nunu Mangu.

According to Ms. Mangu, the committee has been formed in line with the Attorney General’s Office Act and the 2024 guidelines on the execution of responsibilities at regional and district levels.

She stressed that its establishment seeks to reinforce the rule of law and minimize legal disputes involving government institutions.

“The main purpose of this committee is to empower State Attorneys to ensure that the rule of law is observed and implemented across regions and districts, ultimately reducing legal conflicts against the government,” she said.

She added that the first meeting carried special significance, not only for member introductions but also for charting the committee’s responsibilities, developing implementation strategies, and laying a foundation for closer collaboration with government leaders and other stakeholders.

“Through this partnership, the committee will provide advice, legal support, and awareness to leaders, public servants, and citizens at large on the importance of observing the law,” she noted.

Ms. Mangu urged members to serve with professionalism, integrity, and patriotism, prioritizing regional and national interests.

“Justice is the cornerstone of peace, development, and social cohesion,” she emphasized.

Committee member and State Attorney, Mr. Naftal Mzava, said the team is determined to serve citizens by ensuring timely access to legal aid and education.

“As you have heard, this is our first sitting, and the committee aims to provide support to government offices in resolving disputes that have proved difficult for various officials to settle,” he said.

The launch of the Mtwara Legal Advisory Committee forms part of wider national efforts to improve access to justice and strengthen the rule of law at the grassroots level.
