Tanzania accelerates health sector reforms with UK partnership

Tanzania is stepping up efforts to strengthen its health sector, with long-term support from the United Kingdom playing a key role in driving reforms and improving services across the country.

Today, Chief Government Medical Officer, Dr. Grace Magembe, met with the new Development Director at the British Embassy in Tanzania, Ms. Anna Wilson, at the Ministry of Health offices in Mtumba, Dodoma. 

The meeting focused on deepening collaboration to expand primary healthcare, improve reproductive health services for youth especially adolescent girls and tackle previously neglected diseases.

Dr. Magembe highlighted that Tanzania has partnered with the United Kingdom for nearly 40 years, benefiting from expertise and guidance in implementing Universal Health Coverage and managing health programs more effectively.

 She said the government remains committed to leveraging this partnership to ensure accessible, quality health services for all Tanzanians.

Ms. Wilson praised Tanzania’s progress in the health sector, noting the country’s proactive approach in scaling up services and strengthening healthcare delivery. 

She reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continue supporting Tanzania in its journey toward a healthier nation.
