Religious organizations, including BAKWATA, are playing a key role in shaping the future of Tanzanian youth by promoting education, instilling moral values, and fostering national unity.
Speaking at the Mufti Education Awards ceremony at Serena Hotel, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, representing President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, said that education without values is incomplete.
“Values build character, respect, and social cohesion. Our young people need knowledge and ethics to thrive,” he said.
Majaliwa highlighted the practical impact of BAKWATA’s work, noting its schools, madrasas, and colleges not only teach academic and religious knowledge but also help young people develop leadership skills and strong ethics.
“BAKWATA’s efforts directly support children and youth, preparing them to be responsible citizens who contribute to their communities and the nation,” he said.
The Mufti Education Awards recognize outstanding contributions to youth development, innovation, and ethical leadership.
Majaliwa said the awards show how education can bring communities together, promote creativity, and provide opportunities for all young Tanzanians.
“These awards celebrate those who help our youth succeed, regardless of religion or political affiliation,” he added.
The government encourages private companies, religious groups, and development organizations to invest in education to empower youth to create jobs and opportunities rather than just seek employment.
“We want our young people to be innovators, ethical leaders, and drivers of progress,” Majaliwa said.
Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, Dr. Abubakar Zubeir bin Ally, said BAKWATA prioritizes education because knowledge is central to Islam.
“Education is the lifeblood of Islam, and our community is committed to ensuring every child has access to learning,” he said, while also commending President Samia’s leadership in supporting education.
BAKWATA Education Director Ally Abdalah Ally said the awards encourage educators, volunteers, and institutions to continue contributing to positive changes in education.
During the ceremony, 23 awards were presented to individuals and institutions making a real difference in nurturing knowledge, values, and skills among Tanzanian youth.
