As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting youth development and nurturing talents through sports, NMB Bank has donated various sports equipment to Same Secondary School in preparation for the highly anticipated inter-dormitory tournament, known as the “NMB Mbuzi Cup 2025.”
The tournament officially kicked off on Saturday, 20th September 2025, featuring intense competition among all dormitories in three major sports: football, handball, and volleyball.
This initiative marks yet another milestone in the strong and ongoing partnership between NMB Bank and the school, which has seen 100% of the students successfully open youth bank accounts to support their financial needs both during and after school.
To mark the official launch of the games, a charity shield match was held between Form Six and Form Five students, where Form Six emerged victorious with a close score of 3–2.
The opening match was filled with energy, showcasing high levels of competition and offering a glimpse of the excitement expected in the days ahead.
The NMB Mbuzi Cup 2025 tournament is expected to run for approximately ten days, providing a platform to discover and nurture sports talents among students, while promoting discipline, unity, and productive use of leisure time during academic breaks.
In line with the tournament’s unique theme, the winning team in each sport will be awarded a whole goat as a symbol of victory and motivation.
Additional prizes and honorary awards will also be presented to outstanding teams and individual players by NMB Bank in collaboration with the school administration.
These rewards aim to boost morale, promote fair play, and encourage healthy competition among participants.
The official guest of honor at the tournament’s opening ceremony, scheduled for 22nd September 2025, will be Same District Executive Director, Mamndolwa Gembe, who will inaugurate the event in the presence of school leadership, teachers, students, and representatives from NMB Bank.
Speaking during the handover of the sports equipment, Mr. Saad Masawila, Branch Manager of NMB Bank Same, stated:“NMB Bank remains a key partner in the development of education and sports across the country. We believe that sports are not just for entertainment, but a vital tool for instilling discipline, unity, and leadership among our youth. We are proud to be part of the dreams of Same Secondary School students.”
According to both the school administration and NMB Bank, this tournament not only aims to promote athletic talent, but also contributes to holistic youth development, including financial literacy through bank account management, and strengthening social cohesion among students.
