Muhimbili launches mental health Clinic to support staff well-being

In a bid to strengthen the well-being of its workforce, Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has launched a dedicated mental health clinic for its staff.

The initiative, unveiled by MNH Executive Director Dr. Delilah Kimambo, aims to provide counseling, psychological assessments, and treatment for challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression, which can affect both personal and professional life.

Addressing hospital employees in Dar es Salaam during the launch, Dr. Kimambo highlighted that supporting staff mental health is crucial for sustaining quality healthcare services.

“Our staff are the backbone of this hospital. By prioritizing their mental health, we not only support them personally but also enhance the care they provide to patients,” she said.

The new clinic will offer confidential services, help reduce stigma around seeking mental health support, and ensure that employees feel recognized and valued.

This initiative comes as part of MNH’s broader programs ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, aiming to promote proactive mental health care in the workplace.

Dr. Kimambo noted that fostering mental well-being is part of both national and global efforts to prevent psychological crises and reduce suicide risks.

“We want every staff member to know that help is available, and that their mental health matters,” she added.

The move reflects growing recognition worldwide that employee mental health is essential not only for individual welfare but also for organizational efficiency and resilience.
