Tanzania’s JKT Queens will tomorrow begin their quest for regional glory when they face Zanzibar’s JKU Princess in the opening match of the CECAFA Women’s Club Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
The tournament, which kicked off on September 4, has brought together league champions from nine East and Central African nations, all vying for the regional crown and a coveted ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
JKT Queens Information and Communication Officer, Masau Bwire, said the team is in high spirits and fully prepared to represent Tanzania with pride.
“Our players are in good health and the final touches of preparation are complete. We are going into tomorrow’s match with determination, knowing that every point counts towards achieving our objective,” Bwire said.
He added that JKT Queens’ ultimate target is not only to perform well in Nairobi but also to lift the CECAFA title, which would guarantee them a place in Africa’s elite women’s club competition.
Bwire further appealed to Tanzanians, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind the team during the tournament.
“We ask for prayers and support so that our players remain strong and focused as we fight for the championship and a chance to represent the region at continental level,” he said.
JKT Queens head into the competition as one of the teams to watch, with a record of consistency in domestic football.
Their meeting with JKU Princess promises to be a competitive East African derby, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.
