The Journalists Accreditation Board (JAB) has reassured the public that licensed journalists in Tanzania operate freely and without obstruction, following misleading reports suggesting that police in Arusha had detained reporters covering television programs.

In an official statement, JAB confirmed that journalists Ezekiel Mollel of Manara TV and Baraka Lucas of Jambo TV are fully accredited under the Media Services Act, Cap 229, and are legally authorized to perform their duties.

“Our records show that these journalists have consistently complied with registration requirements under TAI HABARI and hold valid press cards,” said Patrick Kipangula, Acting Director General of JAB.

The Board stressed that Section 19(1) of the Media Services Act protects accredited journalists from unlawful obstruction, ensuring they can carry out their work responsibly and professionally.

JAB urged media houses and stakeholders to rely on verified information, highlighting the vital role of journalists in keeping Tanzanians informed and supporting transparency in public affairs.

The Board also noted its ongoing role in guiding media practitioners who have not yet met accreditation standards, ensuring continuous professional development within the sector.

The statement concluded with a call for closer cooperation between JAB and media outlets to strengthen Tanzania’s media landscape, promoting ethical reporting and public trust in journalism.
