How TZS 51 billion infrastructure projects are transforming Arusha City

Arusha City is undergoing a major transformation as TZS 51 billion is being invested in roads, markets, and a modern bus terminal under the Tanzania Cities and Towns Infrastructure Development Project (TACTIC).

The initiative aims to boost trade, improve social services, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Engineer Godfrey Bwire, Manager of TARURA in Arusha District, said the project includes 10.2 kilometres of roads, covering Oljoro Road (1.45 km), Olasiti Road (3.96 km), and Ngoselotoni Road (4.8 km). The roads are currently 72% complete at a cost of TZS 20.7 billion.

In addition, TACTIC is constructing Kilombero Market, a modern Bondeni City bus terminal for intercity buses in Murieti Ward, and upgrading the Kwa Mromboo grilled meat market.

These projects are 6% complete and are estimated at TZS 30.6 billion.

Acting Arusha City Director, Dr. Maduhu Nindwa, said the projects will bring significant benefits to the community.

“Beyond infrastructure, these developments will support businesses, education, and healthcare. Students will travel safely and on time, while mothers and children will access emergency medical care more efficiently through the improved transport network,” he said.

Local leaders are already witnessing the positive impact. James Stephano, Chairman of Oloresho Ward, said the reconstruction of Oljoro Road has revived businesses along the route, bringing back customers and restoring economic activity in the area.

With TACTIC projects advancing, residents of Arusha City are optimistic that improved infrastructure will stimulate trade, create opportunities, and strengthen the city’s position as a commercial hub in northern Tanzania.
