Tanzania’s national football team for players with disabilities, the Tembo Warriors, held their first training session today in Bujumbura, Burundi, ahead of the East and Central Africa Disability Football Championship (CECAAF), which officially opens today.

The team is set to face Kenya in their opening match on September 9.

Speaking from Burundi, Khalid Msahmbaha, spokesperson for the Tanzania Association of Football for People with Disabilities (TAFF), said coach Ivo Mapunda allowed the players a short rest after their arrival yesterday and led today’s session to get the team physically ready.

Msahmbaha highlighted that team leaders addressed the players, encouraging them to give their best and strive to bring the trophy home.

“We thank God that all our players are in good health with no injuries. We pray for their continued well-being throughout the tournament,” he said.

He added that the players are confident, have followed their coach’s instructions, and are determined to perform strongly in the competition.

Msahmbaha also expressed gratitude to the people of Burundi for their warm hospitality and noted that fans are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the team during the matches.
