The Sixth-Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan is finalising the construction of Phase 2 of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, a 20.3-kilometre corridor linking Gerezani and Kivukoni to Mbagala Rangi Tatu.
The project, valued at about TZS 285.1 billion (USD 159.3 million), has created hundreds of jobs during its construction phase.
Once operational, the new line is expected to significantly improve transport services for residents of Mbagala, Temeke, Chang’ombe, Kurasini, Gerezani, and Kivukoni, while also enhancing connectivity between the Dar es Salaam Port and the central business district.
Officials say the investment forms part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise the city’s transport system, ease congestion on Kilwa, Kawawa, Bandari and Sokoine roads, and provide affordable and reliable mobility for thousands of daily commuters.
