Government lawyers trained to protect Social Security Rights

By The Respondent Reporter

The Attorney General, Hamza S. Johari, has called on government lawyers to use training on Social Security to ensure that the rights and benefits of fund members are fully protected.

Johari made the remarks while opening a two-day Social Security training for government lawyers, organized by the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF).

The event runs from 18th to 19th September 2025 at Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership College in Kibaha, Pwani Region.

The training aims to strengthen lawyers’ knowledge on laws that govern Social Security, including the Public Servants Social Security Act, the Contracts Act, the Employment and Labour Relations Act, and matters related to financial management and investments.

“The goal is to give government lawyers a clear understanding of the legal framework of PSSSF, its functions, and the rights and responsibilities of members, retirees, and their families,” said Hon. Johari.

He added that the training will help lawyers provide better legal advice, resolve disputes through dialogue and arbitration, and ensure that the Fund operates smoothly and in line with the law.

“Apply what you learn to protect the Fund and the rights of its members,” he urged.

Hon. Johari also thanked the PSSSF management for organizing and funding the training, noting that it will strengthen lawyers’ skills in law, management, and the daily operations of the Fund.

PSSSF Legal Services Director, Ms. Vupe Ligate, said the training is designed to make it easier for government lawyers to advise on Social Security matters and support the Fund in serving members efficiently.
