The Fire and Rescue Force has praised the Tanzania Lifesaving Society for providing swimming training designed to enhance the skills of its officers.
The training, organized in collaboration with the Tanzania Swimming Association, concluded today at Shaaban Robert Swimming Pool in Dar es Salaam. Participants are scheduled to receive certificates of completion tomorrow.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on September 28, 2025, Training Supervisor Inspector Shani Juma said he is confident the skills acquired will significantly support the officers in their rescue operations.
“We are very grateful for this training as it has equipped us with essential skills that will enhance our rescue work. Initially, the program was supposed to last a full month, but our leaders decided to condense it into three days. We plan to discuss with them to arrange longer sessions in the future,” Inspector Shani said.
He added that 30 officers participated in the program, with seven demonstrating outstanding performance.
“Seven participants showed remarkable ability during the training. We will report their achievement to our leaders for further recognition,” he noted.
Trainer John Belela, Chairman of the Tanzania Lifesaving Society, said it was encouraging to see the Fire and Rescue Force gain critical swimming and lifesaving skills.
“The main objective is to prepare officers and remind them how to prevent drowning incidents along beaches and during floods,” Belela explained.
He also commended participants for their quick learning and discipline, which he said are crucial for lifesaving operations.
He urged the participants to apply the skills seriously, emphasizing that they play a vital role during water-related emergencies.
