The Bank of Tanzania, on behalf of the Government, is selling long-term Government Bonds, also called Treasury Bonds, to help raise funds from both institutions and individual investors.
These bonds have a maturity period of more than one year and are first sold through competitive auctions. After that, they can be traded on the secondary market.
Any investor can buy Treasury Bonds through authorized agents, including licensed commercial banks and Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange brokers.
Citizens can participate with a minimum investment of just 1 million Tanzanian shillings (TZS 1,000,000.00).
Before investing, each person must open a Central Depository System (CDS) Account. This special account keeps all records of your investment and is different from a regular bank account. Opening a CDS account is free. Investors will need to provide a National ID (NIDA), Tax Identification Number (TIN and two passport-size photos.
Investors earn interest twice a year, and the Bank of Tanzania pays this directly into each investor’s bank account.
Investing in Government Bonds is a safe way for citizens to grow their savings while supporting national development.
