Communities in Ubungo and Ilala districts have welcomed ongoing efforts by the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) to strengthen water distribution and ensure reliable access to clean water.
The authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Mkama Bwire, joined residents this week in a series of street-level inspections across Ubungo, Mburahati, Magomeni, Saranga, and Kinyerezi.
The exercise aimed to verify whether households are consistently receiving water and to immediately resolve any gaps in service delivery.
“For us, this is not just about supplying water it is about ensuring that every resident benefits. We are here on the ground to listen, to see the reality for ourselves, and to respond quickly where challenges exist,” Eng. Bwire told residents during the visit.
In Kinyerezi, community leaders noted a visible improvement in service. Street chairperson Mr. Hassan Hamiss Nandeta said that after years of irregular access, many households are now beginning to enjoy reliable water supply.
“We appreciate DAWASA for taking action. People here are finally experiencing change,” he remarked.
The move reflects DAWASA’s shift toward stronger community engagement and accountability, as the authority continues to roll out initiatives aimed at expanding coverage and stabilizing water services in both Dar es Salaam and surrounding regions.
By combining infrastructure investment with on-the-ground inspections, the authority says it wants to close service gaps and make universal access to safe water a reality.
