Police in Kagera Region have arrested a 56-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in an incident authorities describe as a domestic dispute turned deadly.
Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Blasius Chatanda, identified the suspect as Jackson Alexander, a resident of Anyama Street in Kibeta Ward, Bukoba Municipality.
The victim, 40-year-old Dorothea Adolf, reportedly suffered a stab wound to the right breast.
SACP Chatanda said the incident occurred on August 5 this year.
“Preliminary investigations show that a misunderstanding between the two led to the incident. The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete,” he stated.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing. The case highlights growing concerns over domestic violence and the need for preventive measures in households. Authorities urge couples to seek mediation and avoid resorting to violence.
The suspect remains in custody as police continue gathering evidence ahead of court proceedings.
