The Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) will this year begin installing machinery for a state-of-the-art fertilizer blending plant aimed at producing formulations tailored to the specific soil needs of different regions across the country.
TFC Managing Director Samwel Mshote said the company has secured a strategic partner from Zambia who will invest in a large-scale fertilizer manufacturing facility that will use locally available resources, including coal and phosphate from Manyara and Songwe regions.
According to him, TFC has already acquired 2,750 acres of land in Tabora Municipality, where preliminary preparations for the project are under way. Construction is scheduled to start before the end of the year.
“This investment is in line with the government’s vision of achieving self-sufficiency in fertilizer production, cutting import dependency, and saving substantial amounts of foreign exchange,” Mr Mshote said. “It will also generate jobs, raise household incomes, and stimulate overall economic growth.”
In the current season, TFC plans to distribute 200,000 tonnes of fertilizer, including Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), Urea (N-46), and Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN 27). Shipments of DAP and Urea have already been delivered to farmers in various regions, with additional consignments in transit.
The company operates major sales depots in Mbeya, Njombe, Rukwa, Ruvuma, Mwanza, and Tabora. TFC has invited interested Tanzanians to participate in the fertilizer supply chain by registering as agents in their respective areas.
