Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has held talks with Ando Naoki, Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama.

During the meeting, Ambassador Kombo commended Japan’s long-standing partnership with Tanzania, highlighting JICA’s contribution to key sectors such as agriculture, energy, transport, health, water, and human resource development.

“We appreciate Japan’s support through JICA, which continues to play a significant role in driving Tanzania’s social and economic transformation,” Kombo said.

The two officials agreed to deepen cooperation in strategic areas, including quality infrastructure development, human capital advancement, the blue economy, and agriculture.

They also underscored the importance of introducing advanced technology to increase value addition in agricultural products, which is vital for boosting Tanzania’s competitiveness in regional and global markets.

TICAD, launched in 1993, serves as a major platform for strengthening relations between Japan and African nations.

The ninth edition focused on sustainable economic growth, investment in human resources, and leveraging technology to address development challenges.

Japan remains one of Tanzania’s leading development partners, providing financial and technical assistance for major projects such as road and port infrastructure, energy generation, and capacity building.
