The government has called on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to position themselves as agents of positive change in communities through the effective implementation of development projects.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, made the call today while addressing participants at the second day of the National NGOs Forum at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.
Dr. Jingu said NGOs have a critical role in fostering economic transformation, mindset change, and social progress through their interventions.
“NGOs are legally registered to provide services and education in different sectors of the community. It is important to understand that the national sustainable development agenda includes your role as agents of positive change in society,” he said.
He urged the organizations to focus on sustainable income-generating initiatives to reduce overreliance on foreign donors, pointing out that policy shifts in Europe and the United States have altered traditional aid flows.
Dr. Jingu added that NGOs should reassess their operational strategies and leverage locally available resources to sustain services and development projects in their respective areas.
