Kitururu to fly Tanzanian Flag at World Masters Swimming Championships in Singapore

Tanzanian swimmer Adam Kitururu will leave the country tomorrow to compete in the World Masters Swimming Championships, currently underway in Singapore.

The athlete will make his debut at the global event, racing on August 11 and again on August 13.

Ndurumah Majembe, Chairperson of Masters Swimmer Tanzania under the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), said preparations are complete and the nation is behind Kitururu.

“He is well-prepared, and we believe he will deliver a strong performance. Our prayers are with him, and we hope he returns with a medal,” Majembe told The Respondent Online.

Tanzania is making its second appearance at the championships. “In our first outing, we finished second out of 12 nations. Last year, we came third, which earned us qualification for this world event. Adam is our sole representative this year,” Majembe explained.

He added that the long-term goal is to send more swimmers to international competitions.

Kitururu said he has trained hard and is determined to improve his timing on the global stage.

“My focus is to lower my race time and give my best performance. Since it’s my first appearance, I see this as a stepping stone for even greater results in future championships,” he said.

He urged the government to increase support for the sport so that more Tanzanian athletes can compete internationally.
