Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has directed the immediate construction of a 900-metre access road in Ngara District, Kagera Region, aimed at improving connectivity to key public service institutions, including a hospital and a major church project.
The directive follows an appeal from the Bishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Diocese of Kagera, Rt. Rev. Darlington Misango Bendankeh, who highlighted the urgent need for improved infrastructure to support the delivery of essential services in the area.
The road is set to serve multiple institutions and provide critical access to an ongoing church construction project valued at TZS 1.18 billion.
Speaking at the climax of the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Kagera Diocese, held at St. John the Baptist Cathedral grounds in Murgwanza, Dr. Biteko who was representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan ordered the Regional Commissioner, District Commissioner, and the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to coordinate and expedite the road's development.
“This road is not just about connectivity it is about improving lives and ensuring that our people have access to the services they deserve,” said Dr. Biteko.
In a further show of government support, the Deputy Prime Minister also pledged to provide an ambulance to Murgwanza Hospital, following consultations with the Minister of Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama.
The development is part of ongoing efforts by the government to enhance infrastructure and social services in rural and underserved areas, aligning with national goals to promote inclusive development and equitable access to healthcare and religious institutions.
