ACT Wazalendo to finalize parliamentary nominees

By The Respondent Reporter

ACT Wazalendo’s Central Committee will tomorrow, August 21, 2025, meet to make final decisions on its candidates for the Union Parliament and the Zanzibar House of Representatives ahead of this year’s general elections.

In a statement issued yesterday, the party said the meeting will take place at its headquarters in Dar es Salaam, with the sole agenda of endorsing candidates who will represent the party in both the Union and Zanzibar elections.

The Deputy Secretary for Information, Communication and Public Relations, Ms Shangwe Ayo, confirmed the development, noting that the exercise is part of ACT Wazalendo’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring transparency in its nomination process.

“The Central Committee will meet to conclude the final stage of candidate selection for parliamentary seats and the Zanzibar House of Representatives,” Ms Ayo said in the statement.

The move comes as political parties in Tanzania intensify preparations for the 2025 general elections, which are expected to be highly competitive as parties seek to secure both parliamentary representation and control of constituencies across the country.

ACT Wazalendo, which positions itself as a reformist opposition party, has pledged to prioritize the interests of the nation in its campaigns.
