The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has unveiled its provisional squad of swimmers selected to represent the nation at the upcoming Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championship, scheduled for October 16 to 19 this year.
The lineup features promising swimmers aged 11 and above, highlighting the country’s growing pool of talent and the steady development of swimming as a competitive sport.
TSA’s Technical Director, Amina Mfaume, described the selection as an exciting milestone, noting that for the first time, the team will also include masters swimmers demonstrating TSA’s inclusive approach to nurturing the sport across all age groups.
Amina explained that the provisional list has been finalized and is now awaiting confirmation of availability from the selected athletes’ parents or guardians.
“The official, confirmed squad will be announced once this important verification process is complete to ensure all athletes are fully ready to participate,” she said.
In preparation for the championship, TSA plans to launch an intensive afternoon training camp starting in August 2025, which will provide comprehensive training and conditioning for the team.
The training camp will be led by National Head Coach Alexander Mwaipasi, supported by a team of experienced coaches including Kanisi Mabena, Agness Kimimba, and Ally Msazi.
TSA has structured the training program regionally to ensure accessibility and consistency. Swimmers based in Dar es Salaam will train directly with Coaches Mwaipasi, Mabena, and Kimimba, while those from the Lake Zone, such as Mwanza, will train under Coach Msazi.
Swimmers in Arusha are advised to liaise with Coach Fiete, who works closely with many of the selected athletes in that region.
TSA expressed confidence that this highly skilled and dedicated group of swimmers, supported by a seasoned coaching team, will represent Tanzania with excellence.
The association emphasized its commitment to strengthening the sport at all levels and ensuring the team is well-equipped to compete successfully on the regional stage.
