Thrills and heavy defeats mark day two of Azam Amputee Football Tournament

Day two of the Azam Amputee Football Tournament delivered a mix of electrifying performances and one-sided scorelines as teams battled it out at the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, on July 18, 2025.

Organized by the Tanzania Amputee Football Federation (TAFF), the tournament now in full swing has drawn attention for its competitive spirit, raw talent, and remarkable resilience displayed by athletes playing with crutches.

In the most dominant performance of the day, Ubungo crushed West District with a resounding 16-0 victory, underscoring their offensive power and tactical discipline. 

Arusha, meanwhile, suffered a painful 7-0 loss to Sauti Para Sports, while Pugu Para and Central District shared spoils with a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

More action followed as Songwe fell 6-0 to Central District, and Pugu Para bounced back to earn a confident 2-0 win over Black Eagle. Arusha's woes deepened later in the day when they were routed 12-0 by a red-hot Ubungo, and West District endured another defeat, losing 9-0 to Sauti Para Sports.

Speaking at the venue, TAFF’s Second Vice President Rahel Pallangyo highlighted the significance of the tournament in shaping the future of the national amputee football team.

“These matches are not just for competition they are an opportunity to scout the best talent for our national team,” she said. 

“We are preparing for the East and Central Africa Amputee Football Championship scheduled for September in Burundi, and this tournament plays a crucial role in selecting players.”he added

Pallangyo urged players to stay focused, maintain discipline, and give their all on the pitch, reminding them that national team slots are up for grabs.

“We have national team coaches closely monitoring every game. Performance, discipline, and teamwork will determine who makes it to the squad,” she added.

She also encouraged the public to come out and support the athletes, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in inclusive sports.

“These players are inspiring. They play with heart, courage, and determination. Let us show up in large numbers to celebrate their efforts and cheer them on.”he added

With more matches ahead, the Azam Amputee Football Tournament continues to shine as a platform for empowerment, unity, and sporting excellence in Tanzania.
