The Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dr. Delilah Kimambo, has said the hospital’s strategic development agenda is fully aligned with the aspirations of Tanzania’s Vision 2050, which was officially launched by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam shortly after the launch, Dr. Kimambo commended the government’s bold vision, noting that the future of healthcare in Tanzania will depend on integrated reforms that embrace technology, accountability, and excellence.
“In implementing Vision 2050, we have set out to overhaul the entire Muhimbili system both structurally and operationally with a plan to invest TZS 1.2 trillion,” she said.
“This investment will enable Muhimbili to become a regional centre of excellence for specialized health services, capable of attracting medical tourism and delivering high-quality care to both local and international patients.”he added
The Vision 2050 framework identifies the health sector as a key priority under Pillar Two, particularly in section 4.2.2, which emphasizes access to affordable, high-quality healthcare through the use of modern technology.
According to Dr. Kimambo, the hospital’s transformation plan includes full digital integration, modernization of facilities, and the adoption of cutting-edge medical technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
“Muhimbili is committed to building a future-ready health system guided by a culture of innovation, professionalism, and accountability,” she said.
“We are not just improving services—we are redefining how Tanzanians experience healthcare in line with national development goals.”he added
She added that Muhimbili’s reforms are designed not only to respond to domestic needs but also to position Tanzania as a trusted destination for advanced medical care in the region.
President Samia’s Vision 2050 sets out a long-term national development blueprint aimed at creating a competitive, inclusive, and resilient economy, with quality healthcare and human capital development at its core.
