The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has stepped up its use of cutting-edge technology and digital systems in a bid to enhance forest conservation efforts and streamline public service delivery across the country.

The strategic shift towards innovation was highlighted on Friday by the Deputy Commissioner for Marketing and Forest Resources, Mr Salehe Beleko, during an inspection of the TFS pavilion at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).

Mr Beleko told reporters that the forestry sector plays a critical role not only in preserving the environment but also in supporting livelihoods and contributing to Tanzania’s economic growth through value-added forest products and raw materials.

“The forestry sector has become a key driver of environmental sustainability and economic advancement,” he said.

“We are embracing modern systems and digital tools to make services more accessible, efficient, and citizen-focused.”he added

TFS, an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, has rolled out several innovations this year to improve how it interacts with the public and delivers services.

According to Mr Beleko, these advancements are part of a broader strategy to raise public awareness and promote investment opportunities in forestry both domestically and internationally.

“This year, TFS has adopted new digital solutions that are transforming the way we operate. We are now reaching stakeholders faster and with greater impact,” he said.

Tanzania’s forest products have continued to attract attention on the global stage, thanks to their quality and sustainable harvesting practices.

Mr Beleko urged conservation officers to leverage international trade platforms to showcase the country’s forestry potential and open new markets.

“It’s crucial for our officers to actively promote Tanzania’s forest resources and explore new market opportunities, especially in the face of growing global demand for sustainable products,” he noted.

He also called for strengthened public education efforts to combat deforestation and environmental degradation, stressing the need to address challenges such as wildfires and illegal logging through community engagement and local action.

“Every conservation officer must take responsibility in their area of operation. Public education is essential in helping communities understand the value of forests and the investment potential that lies within this sector,” he said.

Mr Beleko encouraged members of the public to visit the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism’s pavilion particularly the TFS booth at the Sabasaba fair to learn more about forest conservation, beekeeping, and access exclusive offers on eco-tourism experiences managed by TFS.

The DITF, widely regarded as one of the largest trade exhibitions in East Africa, continues to serve as a vital platform for public education, business promotion, and technological exchange.
