Tanzania’s Vice President, Dr Philip Mpango, has praised the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) for its outstanding contribution to conserving the country’s natural heritage and promoting tourism, both domestically and internationally.

Speaking at the 2nd African Media Councils Forum held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Dr Mpango highlighted TANAPA’s role in safeguarding Tanzania’s rich biodiversity and elevating the nation’s profile on the global tourism stage.

The Vice President welcomed TANAPA’s recent success at the prestigious World Travel Awards, where the authority received seven international accolades  an achievement he described as a testament to TANAPA’s professionalism, dedication, and longstanding commitment since its inception in 1959.

“These awards underscore the trust and reliability that TANAPA has built over decades, starting from the visionary leadership of our founding father, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere,” Dr Mpango remarked.

TANAPA is responsible for managing 22 national parks across Tanzania, playing a critical role in wildlife conservation, environmental education, and generating economic benefits through sustainable tourism.

Dr Mpango’s remarks come amid wider government efforts to promote sustainable development and diversify Tanzania’s tourism markets.

The African Media Councils Forum provides a vital platform for media and communication leaders across the continent to exchange ideas on governance, freedom of expression, and regional cooperation.

TANAPA’s active participation in the forum reflects its strategic commitment to strengthening partnerships and enhancing Tanzania’s reputation as a premier destination for eco-tourism in Africa.
