Tanzanian football powerhouse Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) has received a TZS 262 million (approx. $100,000) reward from SportPesa in recognition of an extraordinary 2024/25 season that saw the club secure three major titles the NBC Premier League, the Federation Cup, and the Toyota Cup in South Africa.

The symbolic cheque was handed over during a ceremony in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, with SportPesa Board Chairman Abbas Tarimba hailing Yanga’s achievements as a reflection of professionalism, discipline, and strategic leadership.

“We are proud to be associated with a club that continues to break boundaries and elevate the standards of Tanzanian football,” said Tarimba.

“This reward is more than just a financial gesture it is an endorsement of Yanga’s resilience, consistency, and pursuit of excellence.”he added

Tarimba commended the club's leadership and technical team for assembling a competitive squad and maintaining high performance throughout the season, adding that the partnership with Yanga remains one of SportPesa’s most successful collaborations in the region.

For Yanga SC, the 2024/25 campaign marked a historic high, not only by dominating the domestic front but also by gaining international recognition with their win in South Africa a feat that has strengthened the club’s brand across the continent.

Yanga President Hersi Said, who received the cheque on behalf of the club, thanked SportPesa for what he described as “a strategic and trustworthy partnership that continues to deliver results on and off the pitch.”

“We are sincerely grateful for this show of confidence,” said Hersi. “Since we began working with SportPesa, we’ve built a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared ambitions. This reward validates the hard work of our players, coaching staff, and the entire leadership.”

With eyes now set on continental glory, Hersi confirmed that Yanga’s next goal is to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League a milestone the club narrowly missed in previous campaigns.

He expressed confidence in the quality of reinforcements being brought into the squad ahead of the tournament.

“As we strengthen the team, our focus is clear: making an impact in Africa. We believe the players we’re signing this window will give us the edge we need,” he said.

Hersi also revealed that talks are in the final stages regarding a renewal of the club’s sponsorship agreement with SportPesa.

He signalled Yanga’s desire to continue with the current sponsor, praising the alignment of long-term objectives.

“We have no intention of switching partners. SportPesa understands our vision, and we’re confident that we’ll move forward together in the years ahead,” Hersi added.

Yanga’s resurgence in recent seasons, coupled with strong backing from corporate sponsors like SportPesa, underscores a growing trend in African football where strategic partnerships are driving performance, professionalism, and ambition.
