Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) is on track to significantly enhance electricity reliability in Tabora Region, with the Kiloleni power substation project now 80 percent complete, according to the utility’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange.
Speaking during an official inspection visit to the site on July 4, 2025, Mr. Twange praised the project's progress and confirmed that the TZS 14.6 billion facility is among nine substations being upgraded nationwide under the TT Group Project a major initiative aimed at modernizing the country’s power infrastructure.
“The Kiloleni substation is a key part of our efforts to ensure stable and reliable electricity supply in Tabora. Once completed, it will help eliminate persistent power outages and improve service delivery to residents and businesses,” he said.
Mr. Twange was accompanied by the Western Zone Manager, Engineer Richard Swai, and Tabora Regional Manager, Engineer Amina Ng’imba.
He emphasized that the project reflects the government’s broader agenda to increase access to dependable energy as a catalyst for economic growth.
Located in Tabora Municipality, the Kiloleni substation is designed to receive and distribute electricity more efficiently, particularly in response to growing demand from both urban households and commercial consumers.
During his visit, Mr. Twange also held a meeting with TANESCO staff in the region, commending them for their commitment to service delivery.
He urged them to uphold professionalism and teamwork as the company accelerates its investment drive across the country.
“This project is more than infrastructure it’s about empowering communities and supporting industrial development,” he noted.
The Kiloleni project is expected to be completed in the coming months, positioning Tabora among the regions set to benefit from Tanzania’s ongoing energy sector reforms.
