The newly appointed District Executive Director (DED) for Kaliua, Mr. Sosthenes Chakupayuka, formally assumed office on Wednesday following an official handover ceremony from his predecessor, Mr. Raymond Mweli.

The transition follows Mr. Chakupayuka’s recent appointment by President Samia Suluhu Hassan as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local government leadership.

In a symbolic gesture marking the occasion, Mr. Mweli planted a commemorative tree within the district’s administrative premises an act underscoring environmental consciousness and sustainable development, values increasingly promoted under the current administration.

The handover was presided over by Kaliua District Commissioner, Dr. Gerald Mongella, and attended by council staff and other local government stakeholders.

Dr. Mongella commended Mr. Mweli for his service in Kaliua and wished him success in his new post in Mbarali District, urging him to continue serving with integrity and upholding the President’s vision.

“We appreciate the leadership Mr. Mweli has demonstrated in Kaliua. As he moves on to serve the people of Mbarali, we are confident that he will remain a strong representative of President Samia’s commitment to effective and citizen-centred governance,” said Dr. Mongella.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Chakupayuka expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve public service delivery across the district.

“I am honoured by the trust placed in me. With the support of the district leadership and the community, I am confident we will achieve meaningful progress for the people of Kaliua,” he said.

The leadership transition comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to improve service delivery and accountability at the local level.

The Office of the President – Regional Administration and Local Government continues to prioritise capable leadership in district councils as a key pillar in implementing national development goals.

Mr. Mweli’s transfer and Mr. Chakupayuka’s appointment are among several administrative changes made recently by President Samia, reflecting her administration’s ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and inclusive development across the country.
