President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration has disbursed a total of TSh 19.6 billion to the Njombe Region for the implementation of the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), as part of a nationwide effort to enhance access to quality education.
The funds are being used to construct and upgrade key education infrastructure across the region, with TSh 4.36 billion specifically allocated to the completed development of Njombe Regional Girls’ Secondary School.
The school now boasts new classrooms, science laboratories, dormitories, a dining hall, an administration block, and staff housing.
Speaking in Njombe on July 17, 2025, the Regional Secondary Education Officer, Nelasi Mulungu, said the government has also committed TSh 1.6 billion to the ongoing construction of Amali Regional Secondary School in Ludewa District.
“The government has invested more than TSh 12.6 billion to build 20 ward secondary schools across Njombe, a clear demonstration of its commitment to transforming education delivery in underserved areas,” said Mulungu.
He added that an additional TSh 1 billion has been directed toward the construction of essential school infrastructure including dormitories, teachers’ housing, and sanitation facilities.
This significant investment is in line with the sixth-phase government’s education vision, championed by President Samia, which aims to bridge infrastructure gaps, reduce overcrowding, and ensure that more students particularly girls have access to safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
The SEQUIP initiative is designed to expand secondary education opportunities for all Tanzanian children, especially in rural and low-income areas, through a blend of infrastructure development and quality enhancement measures.
