The Ministry of Finance has unveiled a digital treasure trove that allows Tanzanians to access decades of financial and economic data stretching from independence in 1961 to the present through its Treasury Publications Repository (MoF Repository).

Speaking at the Ministry’s pavilion during the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), Mr. Fredy Mpoma, Senior Librarian in the Ministry’s Library Unit, emphasized the platform’s value in promoting transparency, economic literacy, and informed public engagement.

“This system is a vital tool for citizens, researchers, and policymakers. It offers easy access to critical documents such as national budgets, economic performance reports, public debt data, and finance-related laws some dating back over 60 years,” Mr. Mpoma explained.

He noted that the repository plays a key role in helping Tanzanians understand where the country’s economy has come from, how it has evolved, and the direction it is heading.

“It provides a complete economic timeline, which supports informed decision-making, national planning, and academic research,” he said.

Mr. Mpoma highlighted the platform’s importance for the younger generation, who often lack exposure to historical economic data.

“With this tool, youth can develop well-informed perspectives on economic progress and meaningfully engage in national conversations. It also allows comparisons with other African economies,” he added.

Previously, academic institutions and research bodies faced significant challenges in accessing verified and up-to-date information.

The repository now bridges that gap, offering a reliable digital source to support policy development, research, and classroom instruction.

Mr. Mpoma urged the public to visit the Ministry of Finance’s pavilion during the exhibition to learn how to access the system via smartphones, tablets, or computers.

“This is an open and accessible platform. Every citizen now has a chance to understand our economic story and contribute to building our financial future,” he said.

The MoF Repository reflects the government’s continued commitment to open data, transparency, and inclusive access to public information.
