The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, Ridhiwani Kikwete, led the official launch of a major water supply project in Longido District on 10 July 2025.
The event took place as part of this year’s Uhuru Torch Race, a nationwide initiative promoting development and unity.
Minister Kikwete praised the National Uhuru Torch Race leader, Mr. Ismail Ali Ussi, and his team for their dedicated and patriotic work.
He highlighted the role of the torch bearers in mobilising communities, fostering hope, and strengthening national cohesion in areas where optimism had waned.
“The youths participating in the Uhuru Torch Race continue to inspire progress across the country by delivering messages of hope and unity. Their efforts rekindle the spirit of national solidarity in communities that need it most,” the Minister said.
Mr. Ussi reiterated that the torch race remains a powerful vehicle for socio-economic transformation. He noted that since its inception, the race has helped launch numerous community projects, with the Longido water scheme being the latest success story.
The newly completed water project is set to improve access to clean and safe water for residents, supporting better health outcomes and boosting economic activities in the district.
This initiative aligns with Tanzania’s broader development goals to enhance essential services and empower communities across all regions.
