Manyara Region has successfully passed and received full endorsement for all 51 development projects inspected by the 2025 Uhuru Torch, with a combined value of TZS 71.3 billion.

The announcement was made on July 19, 2025, by Manyara Regional Commissioner (RC) Queen Cuthbert Sendiga at Sagara, as the torch was officially handed over to Singida RC Halima Dendegu.

After arriving from Arusha Region on July 12, 2025, the Independence Torch covered 1,197.10 kilometers through seven district councils in Manyara: Simanjiro, Kiteto, Babati Rural, Babati Urban, Mbulu Urban, Mbulu Rural, and Hanang.

RC Sendiga reported that the torch endorsed all projects in the region by laying foundation stones for 11 projects worth TZS 9.7 billion, launching 16 projects valued at TZS 5.5 billion, and officially opening one project valued at TZS 98.4 million. Additionally, 23 projects worth TZS 55.9 billion were inspected and approved during the torch relay.

Funding for these projects came mainly from the central government, which contributed TZS 62.2 billion.

Local government authorities injected TZS 1.9 billion from internal revenues, communities contributed TZS 330.5 million, while other stakeholders provided TZS 6.9 billion.

“These projects cover vital sectors such as health, education, water, livestock, agriculture, road infrastructure, clean energy, investment, and youth development. I commend the people of Manyara for their active involvement in initiating and sustaining these developments,” said RC Sendiga.

During the torch events, 1,532 people underwent HIV testing, including 1,161 men and 371 women. Ten individuals tested positive and were promptly referred for treatment and care.

Efforts to prevent new infections continue, with ongoing public education on HIV prevention in collaboration with stakeholders.

In the fight against malaria, Manyara Region distributed 87,445 mosquito nets to pregnant women and 39,761 to children under five during the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Throughout the torch relay, 631 people were tested for malaria, with no positive cases recorded.

NationalUhuru Torch bearer, Ismail Ussi, commended Manyara for the excellent quality and completion rate of its projects, with a perfect 100% approval rating.

“We congratulate Manyara for this outstanding achievement. I also applaud the local media for effective coverage and the riot police unit (FFU) for their dedicated protection of the torch,” said Ussi.
