Defending champions Magereza are intensifying preparations ahead of the Tanzania Volleyball National League (TVNL), determined to retain their dominance in both the men’s and women’s categories. The 2025 edition of the league is set to take place from July 25 to August 1 at MwembeYanga grounds in Dar es Salaam.
Head Coach Fred Mshangama said the teams have entered residential training with a clear focus on defending their titles and excelling in other upcoming competitions.
“We’re fully committed to maintaining our championship status,” said Mshangama. “Our training sessions are well underway, with players undergoing strength and fitness drills to ensure they are physically prepared. The spirit in camp is high.”
He expressed gratitude to the Commissioner General of Prisons for his continued support of sports within the force, especially for providing the team with the opportunity to train intensively ahead of a packed competitive calendar.
In addition to the TVNL, Magereza will represent Tanzania in two other major tournaments: the SADC Prisons Games, scheduled for August 3–9, and the BAMATA Games, which will be held later in Zanzibar.
Team captain Ramadhan Kassim said the players are mentally and physically ready to take on the challenge.
“Our focus is strong, and the team is united in its mission. We’re going into every match with one goal to win,” he said.
Magereza emerged victorious in both categories of last year’s TVNL and are now looking to build on that legacy, aiming to elevate Tanzania’s reputation through volleyball at both national and regional levels.
