Kagera region launches construction of its new headquarters office

Kagera region has embarked on an important project to enhance public service delivery by launching the construction of a new Regional Office building.

The project, which will cost TShs 9 billion and be executed in two phases, aims to develop a modern facility that caters to the needs of the community and supports the application of technology in public administration.

The first phase, costing TShs 4.6 billion, is being carried out by M/S Skywards Construction Company Limited, based in Dar es Salaam.

At the project's launch, Kagera Regional Commissioner, Fatma  Mwassa highlighted the necessity of establishing a modern office, particularly since the existing building has become obsolete since its establishment in the 1960s.

The new office will not only address the administrative needs of the region but will also incorporate elements that enhance its durability and aesthetic appeal, thereby attracting citizens and potential investors alike.

Mwassa also pointed out the challenges posed by climate change, particularly water scarcity linked to Lake Victoria, which could affect construction activities in the area.

As a result, the contractor, M/S Skywards Construction Company Limited, has been given a timeline of 12 months to complete the first phase of the building, with a focus on adhering to the contract specifications.

Additionally, the project is being overseen by M/S Goztecture Group, whose role is to manage and advise the construction to ensure alignment with government standards and expectations.

Director Gozibert Kakiziba emphasized that the building's design considers four critical elements: durability (with a lifespan of 100 years), aesthetic attractiveness, maintenance of natural vegetation, and functionality to enhance service provision.

Engineer Raphael G. Nyatega of the Kagera Regional Office noted that this project will significantly benefit the region by improving service delivery, boosting staff performance, and facilitating trade and investment opportunities due to Kagera's strategic border location with other East African countries.

The government's commitment to this initiative reflects an investment in the future of Kagera and its residents, ensuring that public services meet contemporary standards and enhance community welfare.
