Yanga Sports Club successfully defended its title last night, winning the Best Male Club of the Year 2024 award at the prestigious Baraza la Michezo la Taifa (BMT) ceremony held at the Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
Throughout 2024, Yanga dominated Tanzanian football by securing the NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League championship and the CRDB (FA) Shield.
Meanwhile, the national men’s boxing team was honored as the Best Male National Team of the Year at the BMT awards. The women’s national football team, the Twiga Stars, also triumphed by winning the Best Female National Team award for 2024.
Other notable winners included Crissa Dillip, who was voted People’s Choice for Best Female Athlete in swimming, and Laksh Bakrania, the People’s Choice Best Male Athlete in cricket.
In individual accolades, Aisha Masaka was named Best Female Athlete of 2024, while Fadhil Majiha earned Best Male Professional Boxer honors.
Veteran athlete Theresia Dismas received a special recognition award for her outstanding contributions to athletics. Among school athletes, Neema Hamis was recognized as the Best Female School Athlete (netball), and Baraka Sanjigwa was named Best Male School Athlete (athletics).
The Best Young Female Athlete award went to Namnyaki Isaya (basketball), and Sabri Kondo was honored as Best Young Male Athlete (football).
In the field of sports journalism, Fatma Chikawe of Azam Media successfully defended her title as Best Female Sports Journalist, while Juma Mohamed of Channel Ten was named Best Male Sports Journalist.
Other awards included Best Female Referee Tatu Malogo (football), Best Male Referee Shabani Mohamed (basketball), and Best Male Coach Samwel Kapungu.
