Amandius Jordan Tembo, popularly known as Toronto, a committed member of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has today officially collected nomination forms to vie for the Member of Parliament seat for Songea Urban Constituency in the upcoming General Election scheduled for October this year.
Toronto, a devoted and long-serving CCM cadre, stated that his decision to contest stems from his strong desire to serve the people of Songea and be a true representative who will advocate for their interests and oversee development initiatives.
According to Toronto, the time has come for Songea Urban to experience a shift in leadership—one that prioritizes dedicated service and the improvement of social services across the constituency.
He emphasized that his political journey is far from over and that this is the right moment to bring fresh energy into the service of Songea, a community he understands deeply after years of close engagement and observation of its challenges.
This marks Toronto’s first attempt at vying for a parliamentary seat, a decision he says comes after deep reflection and extensive consultation with citizens about the development of both the constituency and the nation at large.
In a generation full of lofty dreams but lacking action, the name Amandius Jordan Tembo—Toronto—has emerged as a symbol of renewed hope in Tanzanian politics.
At 35 years old and holding a higher education degree from the University of Toronto in Canada, Toronto has chosen to return to his hometown of Songea in Ruvuma Region with the aim of driving community development and strengthening the values of CCM, a party he deeply cherishes.
He has set ambitious goals, including establishing a modern CCM office in every ward within the Songea Municipality.
Already, he has personally funded the construction of two offices: one in Liwena (Subira Ward) and another in Bombambili Ward.
The Bombambili office, which cost over TZS 30 million, was completed within three months and officially handed over to CCM leadership, receiving widespread praise from party leaders and local citizens.
To Toronto, building party infrastructure is synonymous with building communities. He insists that development should not be left solely to the government; every citizen has a role to play.
In his vision, Songea should be a beacon of success through community solidarity and patriotic self-initiative.
Beyond politics, Toronto is also active in social initiatives especially in education and youth empowerment firmly believing that volunteerism and touching people’s lives strengthen community cohesion and that true change begins with sincere intent and patriotism.
Toronto continues to mobilize youth to engage in action-driven politics, not just rhetoric. His efforts have sparked renewed enthusiasm among young people within CCM, positioning him as a leading example of a new generation of visionary, action-oriented, and patriotic leaders.
