Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has commended the Ministry of Energy and its institutions for driving one of Tanzania’s fastest-growing sectors, urging them to move forward with confidence and pride in their achievements.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Energy Bonanza a sports and wellness event involving staff from the Ministry and its affiliated institutions Dr. Biteko described the energy sector as a powerful engine of national development, growing at a robust 14.7 percent, second only to the arts and entertainment sector.

“This is a sector making real impact on people’s lives,” said Dr. Biteko. “I’m proud to work with this Ministry, and I sincerely congratulate all staff and institutions under it for the dedication you’ve shown to serving Tanzanians.”he added

He further praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her strategic leadership in prioritizing energy development, saying her government has allocated significant funding to projects that are expanding access to electricity across the country.

“President Samia has been at the forefront of supporting this sector, enabling us to deliver tangible results especially in rural electrification. Tanzania is now a continental example in implementing the ‘Mission 300’ initiative, aimed at bringing electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030,” he added.

Held under the theme “Sports for Better Health, Participate in the 2025 Elections,” this year’s bonanza brought together more than 1,000 participants, a significant rise from previous editions.

The event aimed to promote wellness, team spirit, and civic responsibility among energy sector staff.

According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Felchesmi Mramba, the bonanza’s growing popularity reflects stronger institutional collaboration and employee engagement.

“We’ve seen an incredible turnout this year, and that shows the enthusiasm and unity within the sector. It’s encouraging to see staff come together outside the workplace in a healthy, competitive environment,” said Mramba.

Competitions included football, netball, volleyball, basketball, tug of war, sack race, spoon-and-egg race, traditional games like bao and draft, and fun relays drawing laughter, energy, and cheers from the crowd.

Electricity utility TANESCO was the dominant force in several categories, taking home top honors in both men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and football.

The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), meanwhile, showcased its strength in the tug of war, finishing first in both men’s and women’s events.

Other strong performances came from EWURA, which took second place in the women’s tug of war, and TPDC, which finished second in football behind TANESCO.

Among the highlights of the day was a special senior citizens’ race, which drew huge applause and added a heartwarming twist to the competitive spirit of the bonanza.

In a surprise moment, the Ministry of Energy presented a special award to Dr. Biteko in recognition of his leadership and for being the visionary behind the Energy Bonanza.

The award was handed over by Mr. Mramba as a token of appreciation for the Minister’s continued commitment to building a dynamic, people-centered energy sector.

The 2025 Energy Bonanza ended on a high note, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment not only to power Tanzania with energy but also with purpose, unity, and pride.
