Tanzania U16 girls basketball team faces Tough Start in Zone V Championship

Tanzania’s U16 girls’ basketball team got off to a challenging start in the FIBA Africa Zone V Championship, which began today at the Filbert Bayi School courts in Kibaha, Coast Region.

In their opening match, Tanzania fell narrowly to Rwanda with a final score of 74-69 in a hard-fought contest that kept fans on edge until the final seconds.

Speaking after the game, Mary Arthur, Public Relations Officer of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF), praised the team’s performance despite the loss.

“It was a fiercely competitive match right up to the last 7 seconds. Our U16 girls gave it their all—we’re proud of their effort and discipline. This is just the beginning. Let’s move forward together,” she said.

She also called on fans to continue rallying behind the team, encouraging strong support to help boost morale and improve results in upcoming games.
