Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has described the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, as a reflection of Tanzania’s ambition to position itself as a competitive player in global trade.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the opening of a preparatory seminar for exhibitors participating in the 48th edition of the trade fair, scheduled to run until July 13 at the Mwalimu Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
Chalamila commended the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) for its role in organizing the event at international standards, saying the initiative plays a crucial role in strengthening trade and investment ties while showcasing Tanzania’s economic potential to the world.
“This exhibition is not only a national pride but a strategic platform that promotes innovation, market access and environmental responsibility. I applaud TanTrade for creating an enabling environment for business and encouraging the use of clean energy technologies within the exhibition space,” he said.
He urged Tanzanians from all walks of life to take full advantage of the event, which brings together thousands of local and international exhibitors under one roof.
“Sabasaba is more than a business showcase it is a catalyst for learning, partnerships, and growth. I encourage citizens, especially youth and small businesses, to explore opportunities, learn from global peers, and contribute to our national development agenda,” Chalamila added.
The DITF is one of the largest trade exhibitions in the region, attracting participants from across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
This year’s fair is themed around innovation, sustainability, and inclusive trade, with a growing emphasis on digital platforms and green technologies.
TanTrade Director General Latifa Khamis reiterated the authority’s commitment to expanding access to markets and ensuring that Tanzanian businesses benefit from exposure to regional and international buyers.
“Our goal is to empower local enterprises to scale and compete globally. This year’s Sabasaba has been designed to offer more networking sessions, digital showcases, and sustainable business models,” she said.
Over 3,500 exhibitors are expected to participate this year, including foreign delegations representing key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, energy, ICT, and tourism.
