Mwanza Girls and Boys Volleyball teams reach UMITASHUMTA finals

The Mwanza Region’s girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams have advanced to the finals of the ongoing UMITASHUMTA (Union of Sports and Academics for Primary Schools in Tanzania) tournament, currently taking place in Iringa Region.

In the girls’ category, Mwanza will face off against Simiyu in the final match, while in the boys’ division, Mwanza is set to battle Katavi. Both finals are scheduled to be played tomorrow in Iringa.

Mwanza's girls booked their place in the final after a commanding 3-0 victory over Singida, while Simiyu also secured their spot with an identical 3-0 win.

 In the boys' semifinals, Katavi advanced with a straight-sets win (3-0), while Mwanza earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Mbeya in a thrilling encounter.

Prior to the finals, the tournament will feature third-place playoffs. In the girls’ match, Singida will play against Katavi, while in the boys’ category, Rukwa will face off against Rukwa  possibly indicating a split squad or internal selection for ranking purposes.

Speaking on June 16, 2025, Mwanza's head coach Aziz Mabele expressed confidence in his teams' readiness and determination to claim this year’s titles.

“Our goal is to win the championship. We’ve made strong preparations and invested a lot into our training, and we believe we’re capable of achieving victory,” Mabele stated.

He acknowledged the high level of competition, especially in the girls’ category, but remained optimistic due to the teams’ recent performance. 

“We managed to eliminate the defending champions in the quarterfinals, which gives us confidence heading into the final.”he added

With momentum on their side, the Mwanza teams now stand just one win away from being crowned national champions in this prestigious school sports competition.
