Mwanza Region has claimed national glory after its boys' volleyball team emerged champions at the 2025 UMISETA Games, following an electrifying 3–2 victory over Pwani Region in the finals held on June 28 in Iringa.
The final match, filled with intensity and high-level skill, saw Mwanza edge past Pwani in a tightly contested five-set thriller, earning them the coveted title in the annual competition that brings together secondary school teams from across Tanzania.
Speaking shortly after the win, Mwanza head coach Aziz Mabele said unity among the players and strong preparations were key to their success.
“The secret behind this championship is the togetherness of the team and the intense preparations we went through. The boys gave their all,” said Coach Mabele in an interview with The Respondent Online.
While celebrating the boys' triumph, Coach Mabele acknowledged that the girls' team did not win this year, but assured fans that plans are already underway to strengthen all squads ahead of next year’s competition.
“Credit must also go to Simiyu Region they prepared very well and performed impressively in other events. But come next year, we are determined to compete even harder and bring home more trophies,” he added.
The UMISETA Games remain one of Tanzania’s premier platforms for discovering and nurturing young sports talent, offering students a national stage to showcase their athletic abilities and represent their regions with pride.
