Swimmers who earned medals and trophies at the recent national championship have been urged to maintain their hard work and dedication to further develop their talents and prepare for stronger performances in future competitions.
This encouragement came yesterday from Charles Maguzu, Sports Officer at the National Sports Council (BMT), during the closing ceremony of the National Under-12 Swimming Championships held at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) pool in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
Maguzu also called on coaches to continue training these young athletes with diligence and commitment. He emphasized that this formative stage is critical for identifying and nurturing future top swimmers who will represent the country on bigger platforms.
“These young swimmers are building foundational skills and knowledge that will serve them well as they transition to adult competitions in the coming years,” Maguzu noted.
He congratulated the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) leadership for organizing the championship, which featured not only local swimmers but also invited participants from neighboring Kenya. According to Maguzu, such events promote international cooperation and diplomacy through sports.
Maguzu further urged TSA to collaborate closely with BMT by communicating any challenges they face so that the Council can provide timely support. This partnership is vital for enhancing swimmer performance at both national and international levels.
TSA Chairman David Mwasyoge also expressed satisfaction with the smooth running of the championships and the impressive display of talent among the young athletes.
“We are optimistic about building a strong and competitive national team that will proudly represent Tanzania in international events in the years ahead,” Mwasyoge said.
He encouraged more young people to take up swimming, noting that the rise in the number of clubs reflects the sport’s growing popularity.
Mwasyoge appealed to stakeholders to continue offering financial and advisory support, as swimming demands substantial resources.
He stressed that sustained backing is essential for expanding the sport to various regions across the country.
The overall championship was won by Dar Swimming, with Tallis securing second place.
