By The Respondent Reporter

The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has officially announced that all Municipal and District Councils across the country will be dissolved by June 20, 2025, in accordance with the law.

Consequently, all Council Committees composed of elected Councilors will also cease to function on the same date.

Following this dissolution, the Chief Executive Director of each respective Council will take over as Interim Chairperson, supported by Heads of Departments, to ensure continuity of administrative functions and essential public services until the next local government elections are held.

It is important for citizens to note that no Councilor will continue with official responsibilities beyond June 20, 2025.

This decision is part of the standard democratic process and is intended to prepare the way for transparent and inclusive local elections.

The government urges all citizens to remain informed and ready to participate in the upcoming electoral process as it is announced.
