Cincinnati, USA. German football giants Bayern Munich produced a dominant display to dismantle New Zealand’s Auckland City with a crushing 10-0 victory in their opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup held in Cincinnati on Saturday.
From the opening minutes, Bayern demonstrated their class and experience, overpowering the semi-professional side from Oceania with relentless attacks and clinical finishing. The result stands as one of the most lopsided victories in the history of the competition.
Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the sixth minute, setting the tone for what was to follow. Sacha Boey added the second in the 18th minute, and Michael Olise extended the lead to 3-0 two minutes later. Bayern continued their onslaught with Coman scoring his second of the match in the 21st minute.
Veteran striker Thomas Müller added a fifth goal just before half-time, and Olise completed his brace in first-half stoppage time to give Bayern a commanding 6-0 advantage at the break.
The second half saw Jamal Musiala take center stage after coming on for Harry Kane, who was substituted in the 61st minute without scoring. Musiala struck three times in quick succession, finding the net in the 67th, 73rd (via penalty), and 84th minutes. Müller then wrapped up the scoreline with Bayern's tenth goal in the 89th minute.
Auckland City, who mainly consist of part-time players, struggled to compete against Bayern’s world-class squad and failed to register any meaningful attempt on goal throughout the match.
Speaking after the game, Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel praised his team's performance, noting their focus and respect for the competition.
"We came into this match with the right mindset. Every player delivered what was expected. This is a good start, but we remain aware that tougher opponents await us."
With this emphatic win, Bayern Munich advance to the next round of the Club World Cup full of confidence as they pursue yet another international trophy.
The Bavarian side’s victory not only sends a strong message to their rivals but also reaffirms their reputation as one of the most dominant forces in world football.
