Basketball teams Vijana and Don Bosco Troncatti delivered standout performances, securing crucial victories in the ongoing Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball League (BDL), bringing excitement to fans in the city.

In the men’s category, Vijana dominated Polisi with a convincing 78–58 win. The match, played yesterday, saw Vijana control the game early, winning the first and second quarters 21–12 and 27–11.

The third quarter ended in a 13–13 tie, while Polisi fought back to take the fourth quarter 22–17—but it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.

In another thrilling matchup, DB Oratory pulled off a major upset by defeating seasoned league contenders Savio 75–66.

On the women’s side, Don Bosco Troncatti showcased their prowess with a 70–59 victory over Ukonga Queens. Troncatti led through the first three quarters—19–11, 18–17, and 16–14. The fourth quarter ended evenly at 17–17, sealing the win.

Meanwhile, Pazi Queens suffered a narrow 51–49 loss to JKT Stars in a tightly contested game.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Haleluya Kavalambi, Technical and Competitions Director of the Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (BD), praised the competitiveness of this year’s league, attributing it in part to sponsorship from BetPawa.

The sponsor has introduced financial incentives for teams and standout players, increasing motivation and performance levels.

“This sponsorship has been a game changer,” said Kavalambi. “It has pushed players to give their all, knowing they can earn financial rewards for both team success and individual brilliance.”

He added that teams have strengthened their rosters with both local and international talent, intensifying the level of competition across the board.

The league action continues today with four matches scheduled at the same venue. Dar City will take on Stein Warriors, while ABC will face Mchenga Stars.

In the women’s division, Reel Dream will go up against Jeshi Stars, and City Queens will host Kigamboni Queens.
