Former professional golfer and veteran of Dar es Salaam’s Gymkhana Club, Salim Mwanyenza, has paid tribute to the late Lina Nkya, describing her as one of the few pioneering women who boldly participated in both national and international golf tournaments, proudly raising Tanzania’s flag.

Mwanyenza made the remarks during the third season of the Lina PG Tour, currently underway at the TPC Golf Course in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. The tournament was established to honor Lina’s enduring legacy and passion for the sport of golf.

Speaking to journalists at the venue, Mwanyenza reflected on Lina's impressive golfing career, highlighting her frequent participation in tournaments held in Dar es Salaam and abroad. He emphasized that her dedication and performances brought pride to the nation.

“I sincerely thank the Said Nkya family for founding the Lina PG Tour in memory of their beloved mother. Beyond honoring her legacy, the tournament has become a vital platform for nurturing young talent and increasing competitiveness among both professional and aspiring golfers,” he said.

Mwanyenza also appealed to the public to discard the misconception that golf is a sport reserved for the wealthy.

“These tournaments unite our golfing community. I encourage more Tanzanians to join local golf clubs and get involved in the sport it’s for everyone, not just the elite,” he stressed.

He further urged current golfers to actively participate in more competitions to sharpen their skills and raise their game to the next level.

“Playing alone can give a false sense of progress. But when you compete with others, you gain a true sense of your skill level. If you’re behind, you’ll know where to improve and can commit to more focused training,” Mwanyenza concluded.
