The Tanzania Women’s National Team, Twiga Stars, has intensified its preparations ahead of two upcoming FIFA calendar matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The first match is scheduled for May 30 at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.
The return leg will be played on June 3 at the same venue. These matches are part of the team’s buildup toward the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place later this year in Morocco.
Speaking during training sessions, players Elizabeth Chenge and Agness Palangyo shared their thoughts on the team’s readiness and personal expectations.
Elizabeth Chenge expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, stating that they are committed to delivering strong performances.
“We are working hard in training under the leadership of our head coach, Bakari Shime. The atmosphere in camp is positive, and everyone is focused. Our goal is to achieve good results as we continue to prepare for WAFCON,” said Chenge.
Agness Palangyo, who has been called up to the national team for the first time, shared her excitement about the opportunity.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the Twiga Stars squad for the first time. If I get the chance to play in these two matches and prove myself ahead of WAFCON, it would be a major milestone in my career,” said Palangyo.
The team is currently in camp and holding training sessions at the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Technical Centre in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
