Business owners in Ubungo District, particularly those operating in Goba and Madale, have been urged to comply with national tax regulations by formalizing their businesses through registration with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).This move will enable proper tax assessment and ensure that the appropriate taxes are paid.
The call was made on May 21, 2025, by the Ubungo District Executive Director, Hassan Mkwawa, on behalf of the District Commissioner, Albert Msando, during a meeting with TRA officials led by Tegeta Tax Region Manager, Dickson Qamara.
Mkwawa emphasized that the Goba area, in particular, has seen a surge in new business activities, yet many of these enterprises remain unregistered.
He called on business owners to adhere to the law by registering their businesses with TRA to facilitate fair taxation.
“I would like to remind business owners to observe tax laws. We have seen a rise in business activity, especially in emerging areas like Goba, but only a small number of entrepreneurs are stepping forward to formalize and get assessed for tax purposes,” he said.
He further stressed the importance of using Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) for issuing receipts, noting that EFDs are key to promoting transparency and accurate tax reporting.
“EFD machines are the foundation of proper tax compliance because they provide a clear record of all sales made through issued receipts,” Mkwawa added.
Acknowledging some of the challenges faced by business owners particularly the lack of sufficient tax knowledge Mkwawa encouraged them to take advantage of the ongoing door-to-door tax education campaign to better understand their tax obligations.
Speaking during the event, TRA Tax Officer from the Tegeta Tax Region, Mercy Macha, noted that the campaign, which began on May 19, 2025, revealed that many business owners both new and established have not yet been assessed for taxation. She encouraged them to visit the nearest TRA offices for proper assessment and payment of taxes.
Meanwhile, Noela Mushi, a business owner from Goba, expressed her appreciation to TRA for visiting the area and educating business operators on various aspects of taxation.
